Rae Macintosh Music has been a fixture in Edinburgh life for over 160 years. Originally owned by Mr. Rae and Mr. Macintosh, it has been and still is the first port of call for musicians in the Capital. We started life as a dealer of sheet music and instruments, then branched into records, issuing on our own label in the days of 78s.
The shop has worked its way along from its original location in George Street and since the 1960s we have been part of the bustling West End of Edinburgh. We're situated just off Princes Street - diagonally opposite Ryan's Bar.
Nowadays we compliment our large selection of sheet music with an expanding range of instruments and a tempting array of gifts for the musician that you thought had everything! Tuition and repertoire materials for orchestral, rock and folk instruments are held in store and we offer to try and track down anything you can't find.
Scottish music is one of our specialities, and we keep a database of available Scottish Songs. Our range of student instruments gives you a reliable choice at sensible prices. Just when you thought you had bought everything possible for the musician in your life, we bring you musical toilet roll, and socks, and candles, and badges and bookmarks and stickers and even the wrapping paper to make your gift complete.
In store there is a database of local music teachers. We can point you in the right direction if you are looking for private tuition or we can add your details if you are aiming to build your pupil numbers. We also offer a re-stringing service on instruments with a usual turnaround time of about an hour.
