Description

Six original compositions for solo piano, by Michael Nyman, from the award winning film by Jane Campion.

English composer Michael Nyman has developed into one of the most popular, if not important, composers of film music, and his film score for the 1992 film the Piano is without doubt the most famous and familiar of his compositions. The tone of Campion’s film is perfectly emphasised by Nyman’s style and though much here is beautiful and rich, it is a haunting and foreboding sound picture that reflects the greys of sea, sky and spirit.

Rating Review
Customer Rating "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" is without doubt the most beautiful piece I have ever played. Accenting the melody is both challenging and difficult but worth it and makes for some beautiful playing. Also, if you like "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" you'll probably enjoy the rest of the music in the book too. Highly recommended.

Customer Rating I have thoroughly enjoyed learning this music. The pieces in the book (especially 'The Piano / The Heart Asks Pleasure First' and 'Big My Secret') are among the most beautiful pieces I have ever played and convey every feeling that words can't describe as well. However I do believe that it’s necessary to be at least grade six standard to play these pieces perfectly, although it's possible to simplify them. The effort is worth it in the end as the pieces are beautiful.

Customer Rating A lovely collection of pieces. The last piece in the book is my favourite, though. It's also a super piece to get my left hand back up to speed, as I hadn't played for some years.

Customer Rating The final tune is my favourite. I've had to work at it but that's only increased my enjoyment. The left hand and right hand change directions in different parts of the piece so in places it's a bit like trying to rub your tummy with one hand and pat your head with the other (try it!). Really glad I bought this one.

Customer Rating A beautiful score

Customer Rating Wow! The last piece in the book is by far and away the best.
Can be simplified to about grade 4 standard by only playing the upsticks with the right hand. Anyone at this standard and above MUST buy this book.
