Dedicated to Franz Liszt, this Opus comprising 12 Etudes was written during the period of 1829-32. No.12 is a study in arpeggios, famously nicknamed Revolutionary Study, and the mood of this piece is more sombre and agitated, though there is some minor resemblance to the soft and graceful arpeggios of first étude in the Op. 10 set.

Set for solo Piano, this edition has been arranged and fingered by Arthur Friedheim.
