The Sonata in G Major RV59 is taken from Vivaldi's famous Il Pastor Fido, a collection of six sonatas which are among his best-known chamber music. This is the fourth sonata in the collection and has gained particular popularity among recorder players. However, it has remained least accessible because of its original key of A major and the compass of the solo part. Transposing this sonata down a tone to the key of G major makes it much more playable on the descant (soprano) recorder, hence the purpose of this edition. This is a clear and well presented edition of the work and has been edited by Thomas Cirtin. The solo descant recorder and basso continuo parts are also included on separate inserts.
