Composed in 1936 by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962), a neoclassical composer who won the Prix de Rome in 1919, Piece for Solo Flute was premiered by Marcel Moyse. This publication was written in three movements in two contrasting themes. The first theme is a slow lyrical melody compared to the second one which is much faster. The third movement of Piece for Solo Flute brings back the first theme again but with more ornamentation this time.

Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) also composed many symphonic suites, operas and seven orchestras, including 'Angelique' (1926) and 'Divertissement' (1930). He also was in charge of the Académie de France in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera. More

Publisher Alphonse Leduc

Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) studied at the Paris Conservatoire before embarking upon a successful composing career. The composer wrote for a variety of instruments and his works remain popular to this day, Entr'acte for Flute or Violin and Guitar being no exception.

Composed in 1935, Entr'acte is suitable to intermediate level flautists, violinists and guitarists. Ibert was a unique composer who did not associate himself with any particular style. His music is generally lighthearted, often reflecting the composer's wit and humour. Containing a variety of musical aspects and techniques, and, significantly, composed for an unusual arrangement of Flute or Violin with Guitar accompaniment, Ibert's Entr'acte is an exciting addition to the intermediate level Flute, Violin and Guitar repertoire. More

Publisher Alphonse Leduc

To this day, Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments, despite being a violinist himself. His Trois Pièces for Flute and Oboe, or two Flutes is an exquisite addition to the repertoire.

During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, Bozza won prizes for Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes, whilst remaining a prominent composer. Bozza's Trois Pièces are exciting duets containing much musical variation and contrast. As music educationalist, Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza's compositions, "his works reveal melodic fluency, elegance of structure and a consistently sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities." More
