This edition of Harpsichord Work by Antoine Forqueray has been reviewed and edited by Colin Tilney. Dedicated to “Madame la Dauphine” (i.e. The King’s daughter, here, the daughter of Louis XV), this volume includes six suites for a total of 32 pieces. Each of these pieces is actually named after the Courtesans of the Dauphine.

With different degrees of complexity, these pieces would fit the skills of players with an upper intermediate level and above.

The mark-ups in this edition are quite close to those used on Rameau, his pieces being popular and well commented.

Antoine Forqueray was a harpsichordist under the King Louis XV period. Professor of the Dauphine Henriette-Anne, he dedicated this piece to her. More

Joseph Nicolas Pancrace Royer (1705-1755) was born in Turin, however, he moved to Paris in 1925 and soon became responsible for the musical education of King Louis XV's children. Royer is particularly known for his extravagant and virtuosic Harpsichord compositions, as displayed in La Pupitre's compilation of his Harpsichord Pieces. Comprising famous works by the composer, including Suite Bagatelle and March of the Scythes, the collection exemplifies the composer's skills on the Harpsichord. Royer's Harpsichord Pieces is essential to the repertoire of aspiring advanced players of the instrument. More

The eighth volume, comprising Sonatas 358-407, includes the popular and recognised Sonatas in B minor (K. 377) and E major (K. 380). Bearing in mind that Domenico Scarlatti was a highly competent and popular Keyboard player in his day, so much so that he was employed in the service of two royal families, his Sonatas are composed with much experience, understanding and expertise, creating an essential addition to the repertoire of all Keyboard players of the Baroque genre.  More
