Olympics officials have announced exciting new plans to use music to enhance the experiences of spectators at this summer’s games.
Debbie Jevans, London 2012’s director of sport, explained that sports fans will be given the opportunity to buy in-ear commentary headphones at a cost of £10.
Through the head-sets, users will be able to tap into a special playlist service called Rock The Games, which will give spectators access to a range of musical styles and genres, hopefully reflecting the wide array of sports on offer.
Announcing the service at a press conference, Ms Jevans explained that the programme is designed to help generate an atmosphere among event goers.
“It’s about the way we present sport, to inspire people to take part but also entertainment for the spectators,” she told the assembled media at the event.
“As far as the in-ear commentary is concerned, we can educate spectators and advise them where to look, explain what is going to happen etc.
“We are really excited about this innovation.”
Organisers emphasised that the music service would complement the sporting events rather than overshadow the athletes or their disciplines.
It is hoped that the public will take to Rock The Games with organisers determined to make Lond 2012 an Olympics to remember.
The official songbook for the London 2012 Games is now available from Musicroom.com, featuring 13 pieces that capture the emotion, glory and spirit of the Olympics.
The book features music from the past to the present fromThe Olympian by Phillip Glass and Freddie Mercury’sBarcelona to the official themes for this year’s games, includingSpinnin’ For 2012 by Tinchy Stryder.
