Thousands flock to London Bass Guitar Show

The two-day event featured masterclasses and jamming sessions with the likes of Yolanda Charles and John Paul Jones.

Almost 2,000 musicians and fans flocked to this year’s London Bass Guitar Show, which was held on March 3rd and 4th.

Organiser Oyster House Events told Mi-Pro.co.uk that many exhibitors at the two-day event reported good business, while the masterclasses and jamming sessions saw the rooms packed out.

Speaking to the news provider, Hugo Montgomery-Swan, who organised the event, said it was an “encouraging year” for the show and the bass guitar industry.

“There is little doubt that this dedicated show fosters a real community spirit and serves as an inspiration to players both established and new,” he added.

“We’re looking forward to 2013 and are already in discussion with artists who couldn’t make it to this year’s show due to scheduling conflicts.”

As well as independent retailers and manufacturers of bass guitars and amps selling their products to attendees, the event also saw a number of other events.

Bass players could pick up new playing tips and try out the latest gear at masterclasses and the main stage featured performances by leading bass players.

On the live stage, TM Stevens showed off his ability with a new bass from Warwick, while Jamiroquai bassist Paul Turner took to the stage with his band Shuffler to perform tracks and answer questions about bass playing, as well as his experiences of playing with the likes of Annie Lennox, Brian Ferry and Tom Jones.

Meanwhile, the free masterclasses featured talented musicians including double bassist and composer Jon Thorne, who has played in a range of styles with electronica band Lamb and Mr Scruff among others.

Bassist Yolanda Charles also held a popular masterclass, sharing her experiences of working as a session player for artists including Paul Weller, Marcella Detroit and Robbie Williams and starting her career perfecting soul, funk and reggae sounds.
