Rihanna has been nominated in no fewer than 18 separate categories at this year’s Billboard music awards. The Only Girl in the World singer is up for top female artist, hot 100 artist, top R&B artist and Dance/Electronic Artist at next month’s bash.
Rapper Eminem follows in 16 categories, with nods for Top Artist, Male Artist and Rap Artist, while Lady Gaga is up for 12 awards. Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars are up for 11 gongs, and both in the running for New Artist and Male Artist.
There are 46 categories at this year’s awards which celebrate artists who have appeared in the Billboard charts between the end of February 2010 and March this year. The winners are based on a combination of factors including sales, radio play, social media interaction, streaming and tour earnings.
British nominees include Susan Boyle (Top Billboard 200 Artist and Album), Roger Waters (Touring Artist), Mumford And Sons (Rock Song, Rock Artist and Alternative Artist, Alternative Song, Alternative Album), Muse (Rock Artist and Alternative Artist), La Roux (Dance Artist), Florence And The Machine (Alternative Song) and Sade (R&B Album).
Rihanna has had sales of more than 15 million albums and 45 million singles. Over her relatively short career, she has achieved nine number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
Billboard named Rihanna the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade. She has received several accolades, including the 2007 World Music Awards for World’s Best-Selling Pop Female Artist and Female Entertainer of the Year, and the 2011 Brit Award for Best International Female Solo Artist.
She has also amassed a total of four Grammy Awards, four American Music Awards, and fifteen Billboard Music Awards.
