She appears on the band’s latest album, Mylo Xyloto, on the track Princess of China and they will perform the song at the show on February 12th.
It will be the first time they will have performed together away from the recording studio and after the Grammys confirmed the news, Rihanna took to her Twitter account to say: “#RihannaNavy My friends@ColdPlay and I will be sharing the stage for a performance at this years Annual Grammy Awards! #BONKERS.”
She later tweeted that she has racked up more than two billion views across the clips on her official YouTube channel, beating Lady Gaga to become the most watched female artist on the video sharing site.
Coldplay revealed that the band had asked Rihanna to join them on their album last year. Speaking to BBC Radio 1 in October Chris Martin defended the slightly unusual collaboration.
“Don’t you think that music now shouldn’t fall into a particular box? I don’t think anyone thinks like that any more,” he said.
Other artists confirmed to be singing at the event include Paul McCartney, Kelly Clarkson, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
Rumour has it that Adele might also perform at the show.
LL Cool J will host the Grammys, the first time in seven years that the awards will have an official host.
Both Coldplay and Rihanna are nominated at the awards, although they won’t be competing against each other.
Rihanna has four nominations for best album and pop vocal album for Loud; and best rap/sung collaboration for What’s My Name with Drake and All of the Lights with Kanye West, Kid Cudi & Fergie.
Coldplay, meanwhile, have three nominations for best pop duo/group performance for Paradise; and best rock performance and best rock song for Every Teardrop is a Waterfall.
