Michael Jackson fans will be pleased to hear that a new album of work by the King of Pop is due to go on sale next month.
After reports surfaced earlier this year that tracks would be released, the estate of Michael Jackson and Epic Records (a division of Sony) has announced that the album will come out on December 14th.
Entitled Michael, the songs have been completed posthumously and the recording features a number of never heard before tracks which the singer-songwriter was working on before his death in June 2009.
And fans can already listen to the first unheard track from the album, called Breaking News, as it is currently being streamed from the star’s official site. The song was recorded in New Jersey in 2007 and was “recently brought to completion”, Sony said.
A statement released by the company read: “The creative process never stopped for the King of Pop who was always planning for his next album.
“Unbeknownst to many fans around the world, Michael Jackson was writing and recording songs continuously everywhere, from a friend’s home in New Jersey to studios in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, with a small group of handpicked collaborators.”
Jackson’s last album of original material, Invincible, was released almost a decade ago. The album was a commercial success, peaking at number one in eleven countries worldwide, including the US, UK, Australia, France and Switzerland.
“Now, through the unique stories that will be told about the songs that comprise Michael, fans will get mind-blowing insight into how this artist worked and a chance to hear the songs he most recently created along with tracks that Michael had a desire to bring to fruition,” Sony added about the forthcoming album.
With estimated sales of over 750 million records worldwide and hundreds of industry accolades, Jackson is the most-awarded recording artist in the history of music.
