Musikmesse 2012: Peter Pollard’s Odyssey unveil new orchestral instruments

Amongst the other big name product launches expected at this year’s Musikmesse, Odyssey Premiere are unveiling a raft of new brass and woodwind models.

The series, distributed by John Hornby Skewes & Co. Ltd, includes a bass clarinet, oboe and piccolo, as well as extensions to its existing range of instruments.

The highlight of the range being a Bb Bass Clarinet, which features an ABS/wood composite body, silver-plated key work and a fully automatic octave key. The instrument will add to Odyssey’s existing premiere range of Bb clarinets.

Also new to the manufacturer is the C Junior Oboe for students new to the instrument. This simplified conservatoire model has an ABS/wood composite body, silver-plated key work, high quality pads and steel rods and screws.

Meanwhile, the C Piccolo is a high-quality instrument that will accompany Odyssey’s range of flutes and its new model, the Curved Head C Flute. This is also designed for younger players who maybe can’t reach all of the keys on a standard-sized instrument.

Taking a look at the brass section, Odyssey will show at its stall the Eb Tuba, Eb Tenor Horn, Bb Baritone Horn, C Trumpet and Bb Euphonium to form a brand new Brass Band Series. They all have matching silver-plated bodies and gold-lacquered caps and slides, the news provider noted.

In addition, the new Bb/F Trombone will offer something different for musicians, as it has extra tubing and a valve that transposes the instrument into F as well as in Bb.

All of the new range has been designed by master craftsman Peter Pollard, one of the most sought-after instrument designers and repairers in the UK.

Peter will also be making an appearance at musicroom York’s Learn To Play Day event to answer customer questions and offer some words of advice to players.
