On August 29th Musicroom Portsmouth hosted their second Acoustic Sunday. As the title suggests the event was devoted to the beautiful, relaxed mood of acoustic music as a range of talented artists performed throughout the day.
After the first Acoustic Sunday the team in Portsmouth worked hard to expand the event, involving more local artists and securing a headline act, US singer-songwriter, Dean Friedman!
Other groups and artists performing on the day were Folsom (two piece country rock duo inspired by Johnny Cash), Winter’s Hill (a three piece folk rock band), Aimee Smith (fabulous singer song-writer pianist), Ben and Mark (alternative Uke duo) and Lem and the White Fire, usually an eleven piece pop band, scaled down to four so that we could fit them and their equipment in the store.
Words of the store manager, David Courtney –
“It was an amazing afternoon! Drew [Assistant Staff Manager] set up a PA and did such a great job mixing the acts. We’ve got loads of great photos! All the acts performed tight 20 minute sets and were wonderful, a great varied mix, they brought many friends and family, we probably had between 30-40 people attending throughout the afternoon. Dean Friedman played to a packed house and very graciously played three songs on piano – ‘Lydia’, ‘Macdonalds girl’ and ‘Well well said the rocking chair’. Then three musicians from the previous bands joined him for his Ukulele led song ‘Under the Weather’ – this was a golden moment as the atmosphere was just perfect, the audience clapped and whopped at the end.”
