American rock band The Killers are to be presented with an award to recognise their contribution the future of US music, it has been announced.
The quartet will be honoured with the ASCAP Vanguard Award at a ceremony later this month alongside music legend Patti Smith and other artists.
Previous winners of the prestigious award include Santigold, All-American Rejects, Arcade Fire, The Mars Volta, Jack Johnson, The Strokes and Bjork.
Formed in 2002, The Killers have released a total of three studio albums and 18 separate singles, culminating in the sale of 12 million albums worldwide.
Comprising vocalist and keyboardist Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ronnie Vannucci, the band have won two Brit Awards and six NME accolades among others.
Earlier this year, British songwriting legend Ray Davies told Rolling Stone magazine that The Killers had been chosen to contribute to a cover album of The Kinks’ songs, due out at the end of the year.
