The legendary Led Zeppelin bassist is one of 13 talented artists being recognised for their work at the 37th annual ceremony next month (October 20th 2010).
Jones has been shortlisted for the accolade thanks to his work not only with Led Zep, but for his work as a music director, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist.
Indeed, in recent times, he has earned much acclaim for his solo work and involvement alongside Dave Grohl and Josh Homme in supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.
According to Allmusic, this constant involvement in the industry has meant that Jones “has left his mark on rock and roll music history as an innovative musician, arranger and director”.
Other Gold Badge recipients for this year include soprano LesleyGarrett, EMI Music Publishing deputy managing director Tom Bradley, AIR Studios engineer and mixer Geoff Foster, composer Howard Blake and broadcaster Julian Joseph among others.
British television composer Brian Hodgson summed up the awards by saying: “In many ways the Gold Badge Awards show the breadth and depth of our industry better than any other.
“The Awards span the decades and cut through all musical barriers. They pay tribute to those at the forefront of the industry and to those behind the scenes. They seek out the unsung heroes and honour the songsmiths that have brought so much pleasure to us all.”
