Start With A Story is a new series of musical activity learning resources for specialist and non-specialist early years teachers.
Based around a fun and imaginative story, each book brings in sing along songs, group drama activities and games that help to develop learning and music skills in the classroom. The books come complete with audio CDs of music and backing tracks to bring learning to life. All teachers need to get started is some free space and a small selection of percussive instruments with no special music knowledge required.
Stories are a powerful starting point for creative learning, and the chapters of each Start With A Story book offer teachers a plethora of content ideas and options to augment and enrich their lesson plans.
The series has been designed and written by award-winning children’s author, Ann Bryant, to inspire and inform lesson plans for the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Check out Ann’s video overview of the series below:
Each Start With A Story title features its own unique story and theme.
Follow Fiddy Field Mouse and Huckleberry Hedgehog in their charming adventures through spring, summer, autumn and winter. Ann Bryant’s vivid writing brings all the sights and sounds of each season to life, firing up children’s imaginations as they learn about the world around them.
Featuring popular characters such as Rumplestiltskin, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs, Mr. Troll in Pixiewood Forest is a magical journey through the fairy tales and folk stories of old.
Two families of Dragons and Dinosaurs struggle to get along in this modern fable of fantasy monsters and their mythical rivalry. Both sides come to realise they’re not so different after all and friendship soon blossoms between these not-so-fearsome beasts.
Children will identify with the story of Tommy Mac as he begins nursery school as an Early Years stage learner. With fun, new experiences explored on every page, young children will be inspired to engage with their peers and the world around them, making their own discoveries as they go.
