In doing so the singer-songwriter has matched a record originally set by Madonna way back in 1990. Her second album, 21, has now been at the top of the charts for the same period of time as the Queen of Pop’s first greatest hits record, The Immaculate Collection.
The East Londoner’s debut album, 19, remained at number two. In the singles chart, the singer’s track Someone Like You also shot back up to number one – a week after being knocked off the top spot by Nicole Scherzinger.
It’s not the first record that Adele has broken this year either. In February, she became the first living artist since The Beatles to have two top five hits in the UK single and album charts simultaneously.
Adele first came into the spotlight after being crowned as the BBC’s Sound of 2008 winner aged just 19 years of age. She was the youngest act to ever receive the accolade, which is voted for by music critics, broadcasters and bloggers.
Over the course of her career, Adele has been put forward for a number of awards culminating in a double Grammy Award win in February 2009 for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
