Duo Concertante, Op. 351 by Darius Milhaud was composed in 1956 for the Paris Conservatoire Contest.

Many influences can be recognised in this piece: from the Provence where he was born, to Jazz and other melodies of South America.

Lasting approximately 7 minutes, Duo Concertante, Op. 351 is started by a fanfare with a strong energy reminiscent of the South of France, followed by a simple and moderate Clarinet partly joined by Piano chords. The initial theme is then repeated one last time for the finale.

Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a French modernist composer and a teacher. He was also part of the The Group of Six and was strongly influenced by Jazz. His opus list ended at 443.

Milhaud's compositions are influenced by jazz and polytonality, as exemplified in Four Faces. The fourth of Four Faces, The Parisian Woman, is an alternative, exciting piece for advanced violists. Composed in 1943, Milhaud makes use of harmonics, complex rhythms, ornamentation, altering time signatures and clefs, double stops, variation in dynamics and a wide tessitura, among other aspects. The composition includes polytonality and polyrhythms that make it highly lyrical, cheerful and nice to sing.

The five poems selected are:
1. Pays, arrêté a mi-chemin / "Country that stops half-way..."
2. Rose de lumiere / "Rose of Light"
3. L'année tourne / "The year revolves"
4. Chemins qui ne menent nulle part / "Paths that take you nowhere"
5. Beau papillon / "Lovely butterfly"

Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a composer and a teacher who was also known to be part of Les Six. His composition were known to use politonality and to include some characteristics drawns from the jazz genre.
