Is it me or has Grade 1 suddenly got much harder? I know pupils need to be challenged but in my humble opinion the standard of the pieces in this collection is overall much more difficult than in previous years. Yes, the pieces are (on the whole) interesting and well balanced (not convinced by C3 though, especially at this level!) and it's definitely worth exploring the alternative listings (A5, B5 and C5 particularly popular with my students).

As a piano tutor I'm overjoyed to have found this book. Volume 1 contains 62 graded studies suitable for use between beginners-approx Grade 3 to 4 from all our favourite composers such as Kohler, Gurlitt and the wonderful Carl Czerny. Great for use as quick studies in the lesson and as technique builders for home practise. A lot of music for your money!
