Some really good fun tunes. As an experienced keyboard player who's recently turned his hand to Piano Solo I found this a really good fun way of practising bass with my left hand. Perhaps Intermediate was too big a jump for me from the off, so I'll be buying the 'Easy' Jazzin' about. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys Jazz improv as there are a few decent licks in the book I've added to my improv repetoire.

I bought this book for one simple reason - the piano solo in "My Baby Just cares for me". Highly recomended as the score plays exactly as you here it when Nina's pianist is playing. Fantastic!

It's almost impossible to teach yourself to improvise, (well, it was for me) but this book nevertheless provides an excellent grounding in Jazz standards with some really great riffs to add to your repetoire and a lot of interesting information about the various blues scales which is a) vital information for anyone wanting to improvise and b) very interesting for any scholars of music and it's theory. So there are good reasons to buy the book and I'm glad it's in my collection. As I said at the start if you want to really learn to improvise it's best to sit with someone who can - my old teacher was more than happy to help me out - as it'll move your game on far quicker and with more enjoyment (you're playing with someone else) than you can from a book.

Without well founded and good sounding chord progressions you can forget anything you know about improvising melody. The chords hold everything together and while you can come up with your own progressions that sound pleasing to your ear this book armed me with the basic, and more advanced, chord progressions used in most types of popular music. Once your playing these chords with a decent rhythm backing from your keyboard's bank (and the wife's guitar!) the improvised melody can just flow. A very important book for anyone wanting to branch out from simply playing sheet music.
