There are many makes to choose from: Pearl, Premier, Yamaha, Mapex, Ludwig, Sonor and more. The make is largely a matter of personal preference although at entry level some manufacturers are especially competitive when it comes to pricing: Mapex, Yamaha and Pearl are names to look out for. Established brands keep their value so if you are likely to upgrade your drum kit later on major brands will probably command a better second-hand price. Otherwise, how a given drum kit feels and sounds is more important than the name.
