Mark Knopfler made his name as the lead guitarist and vocalist for
Dire Straits, which he started in 1977 with his brother, David. He has also worked with a vast range of artists and composers, from
Bob Dylan to
Jools Holland,
Tina Turner to
Chet Atkins. Widely considered to be one of the greatest Rock Guitarists of all time, between his solo and band work, he has sold over 120 million records to date.

As well as his work with Dire Straits, Mark has also had a very successful solo career, with nine releases since 1996. As a composer, Knopfler is well known for his superb soundtrack to
The Princess Bride, as well as Local Hero, A Shot At Glory, and several more. As a guitarist, he is well known as a fingerpicker, with his own version of the clawhammer style. He has a formidable collection of Guitars, including some extremely rare models from Fender, Gibson, Martin, Danelectro, and Pensa. Fans also have a large interest in how he achieves his sound, through the use of different effects and amplifiers. In addition to composing and performing his own work, he’s also known for his skills in the studio, having produced records for Bob Dylan, Aztec Camera, Willy DeVille, and Randy Newman.
